‘Par Avion’ and ‘Postal Panel’ connect across time with ‘Union Jack’ and ‘Pascoes Shed’ a series of grain and wool sack destinations. All travel and blend comfortably with ‘Pullman’ stripe and two unassuming plains ‘Panache’ and ‘Pinaroo’, in flat woven or textured chenille.

The names in the ’ATHLONE’ fabric collection by Osborne & Little (new March 2011) evoke the dramatic coastline and rugged landscape of rural Ireland. A handsome collection of checks, gingham, tartans and stripes in a variety of qualities ranging from warm wool upholsteries to cool linen and cotton curtain fabrics. The colour palette includes traditional celtic tones of rust, heather and peat but is also enlivened with zestful lime and magenta.
“Galway” (left) is the name of the county and famous bay on the west coast. This is a versatile stripe of ombré colour in pure cotton.

The INTAGLIO Wallpaper Collection by Zoffany and brought to us by Domestic Textiles, is inspired by and use the distinctive ‘intaglio’ printmaking technique of incising a design into a hard surface to create dynamic wallpapers. Three of these designs draw on the architectural lines of ancient and classical Rome, other designs depict illustrative maps, forests of sycamore trees and a sophisticated smaller scale design of repeated coronets. John Robshaw works with various workshops in India, where he travels several months out of the year to oversee production, experiment with new dyeing and printing techniques, and to work alongside the artisans creating the fabrics. He takes care to cultivate and preserve their traditional techniques, but not only in India. As a consultant for Aid to Artisans, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating economic opportunities for craftspeople in developing nations, John has traveled to Vietnam, Cambodia, Zimbabwe, and most recently, Bolivia, in support of the textile artisans there. “When you look at my textiles, it’s like you’ve been on the world tour along with me. I want all the colors, processes and designs from each culture to blend. I redesign them and mix up the processes in ways no one has ever done before. I try to edit them, learn from them, make them my own but retain their essence. In piggybacking these designs and techniques with each other or with my own ideas, what emerges is new and fresh, and yet retains that sense of tradition, of the handmade”.

Seneca and Nina Campbell present PARADISO FABRICS, a collection of elegant fabrics inspired by Dante’s poetry – Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) – and Renaissance Florence. PARADISO WALLPAPERS and the small-scale designs in PARADISO WEAVES provide co-ordinates.
ROSA ALBA – Bouquets of roses in full bloom. Alba roses are hybrids whose antiquity may go back further than the Roman Empire. Pliny (23-79 AD) mentioned white roses in his Natural History which botanists believe to have been Albas. Other designs in the collection include: ARNO, PARADISO, PONTE VECCHIO, PORTINARI & BEATRICE.
