It looks absolutely perfect in this application where she needed to fill a niche at the top of a stairway landing, and also wanted to complement an antique Asian chest of drawers. The names in the ’ATHLONE’ fabric collection by Osborne & Little (new March 2011) evoke the dramatic coastline and rugged landscape of rural Ireland. A handsome collection of checks, gingham, tartans and stripes in a variety of qualities ranging from warm wool upholsteries to cool linen and cotton curtain fabrics. The colour palette includes traditional celtic tones of rust, heather and peat but is also enlivened with zestful lime and magenta.
“Galway” (left) is the name of the county and famous bay on the west coast. This is a versatile stripe of ombré colour in pure cotton.

Osborne & Little’s GRAND TOUR (new March 2011) is a collection of wallpapers inspired by the artistic and architectural treasures of Italy, especially those of Venice, as discovered by aristocratic young Englishmen on the Grand Tour of Europe. Recently ‘The New York Times’ described the Grand Tour in this way: ‘Three hundred years ago, wealthy young Englishmen began taking a post-Oxbridge trek through France and Italy in search of art, culture and the roots of Western civilization. With nearly unlimited funds, aristocratic connections and months (or years) to roam, they commissioned paintings, perfected their language skills and mingled with the upper crust of the Continent’. Most of the wallpapers in this collection have co-ordinating or companion designs in GRAND TOUR FABRICS.
